The Cleveland Forrest Martin, III
Memorial Scholarship Fund
Cleveland Martin was taught an early age that moral character, support, and education would equip you with the tools needed to build a solid foundation that would assist you in building a positive life for yourself and others. With the sound assistance of his parents and community, he grew to not only become an advocate of those principles, he lived them throughout his life. After graduating from Crestwood High School in 1961, Cleveland attended North Carolina A&T University, completed an apprenticeship at the Naval Shipyard, honorably discharged from the US Army, graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Norfolk State University, and retired from the Xerox Corporation after being there for 30 years. He then became an adjunct math professor at Tidewater Community College until 2012. Mr. Martin then devoted much of his time tutoring his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews in math while taking time to travel the world.
Supporting the Crestwood High School Alumni Association, Inc.’s goal of “Preserving the Legacy” of Crestwood High School became very important to Mr. Martin. While preparing and discussing his “home going” with his loving family by his side, Mr. Martin asked that in lieu of flowers or plants at his service, he asked that donations be made to the Crestwood High School Alumni Association, Inc. The family has decided to establish an annual memorial scholarship fund with a portion of the funds collected to honor the life and legacy this outstanding husband, father, grandfather, and advocate.
The Crestwood High School Alumni Association, Inc. will administer and manage the scholarship fund. The scholarship will recognize and highlight the student’s scholastic accomplishments, leadership abilities, and community services.
